The Steam Rally is held over the first weekend in August every year and is organised and run wholly by volunteers in aid of the West Somerset Railway Associaton (Charity no 1041901). It is a major fundraising event in the railway calendar and a high profile means of promoting the railway to a broad audience. It takes place on the WSRA fields at Norton Fitzwarren. For further information or to apply, please contact the Rally Team 01823 433856 email@example.com
Rally Chairman, Geoff Garfield, writes:
"We are very much looking forward to seeing our volunteers again for this year's event. Most positions are now filled, but we are keen to have a few more. Specifically, we are keen to hear from anyone who would like to join our team of car park marshals and programme sellers. No experience is necessary; we will give you training, a hi-vis vest, lunch and plenty of drinks. There is also a very special opportunity coming up soon for our volunteers: details will be out shortly. So, if you are interested, please download the volunteer application form, or ring 01823 433856. We look forward to hearing from you."
To make the annual Rally happen, and prepare for more than 6000 visitors and 2000 exhibitors is a very demanding task, but also an enjoyable one. We have a tremendous team of volunteers:
Our volunteers come because they enjoy being part of our team, and have some fun, as well as hard work. They all contribute to the success and enjoyment that the Rally gives to so many people.
If you would like to join us, we would love to hear from you. We are particularly interested in:
If you do not live locally, we may be able to provide camping or caravanning space on our rally fields for the weekend by prior arrangement.
Minimum age is 16 years although we are grateful for the assistance of members of the WSR's Trackers youth section at the rally.
Working on the gates or ticket booths, you will be the first person our visitors encounter when they arrive at the rally and we want to give them a warm welcome and competent service, we would therefore like you to be of a 'sunny disposition' and able to remain calm when busy.
Some of the preparation work requires physical competence and has to be undertaken even in inclement weather!
Working on our entrance gates or ticket booths provides an opportunity to volunteer if you do not have much time to commit. We ask for at least a total of four hours. Working with the Rally could be an introduction to the WSR and becoming a fully fledged volunteer on the Railway.
We will supply high-visibility waistcoats as necessary.
